The following information will help you understand how to eat longan to limit the side effects of this fruit.
Longan fruit contains many trace elements such as iron, magnesium, zinc, potassium, phosphorus, protein, fat, sucrose and glucose, said TS.BS Truong Hong Son, director of the Vietnam Institute of Applied Medicine.
In addition, longan is rich in vitamins A and C, which are very beneficial to health, help beautify skin and slow down aging, improve the body’s resistance and ability to absorb iron. It is effective in treating stomach pain and diseases related to the pancreas.
This fruit is very beneficial for postpartum women when they eat hot porridge cooked with longan, lotus seeds, persimmons and glutinous rice and experience symptoms such as dizziness, heavy head, sweating, thin pulse and pale tongue.
Side effects of the label
According to Dr. Sun, the tabs are also contraindicated for some people due to unwanted side effects.
Specifically, pregnant women who are weak, or have heat in their bodies or constipation or bitterness in their mouths, are advised by experts not to eat longan, especially during the 7-8 months of pregnancy. This fruit can cause internal heat, abdominal pain and bleeding, which can affect the health of the fetus and the mother.
Longan is sweet and warm in nature, and if you eat too much of it, your body will feel uncomfortable and you will easily get pimples and rashes. Therefore, people who are hot should limit this fruit.
Experts also point out that the label is quite high in sugar content. Therefore, consuming large amounts of longan can increase the amount of sugar in the body and lead to weight gain.
In particular, according to Dr. Son, eating a lot of longan at once can lead to a sudden rise in blood sugar, which can be dangerous for health, especially for people with diabetes.
Dr. Son recommends that people eat only 200-300 grams of longan per day. This level will help ensure an adequate supply of essential nutrients. Experts note that one should not eat too much longan at one time, nor should one eat a lot of longan when hungry, as this can lead to “drunkenness”.
“Although we eat only the pulp and will peel the longan, preservatives, insects, mold, bacteria and dust are often attached to the longan skin, so it is necessary to wash and soak it in dilute salt water for 10 minutes before consumption…. When eating, people should use only their hands to separate the shells, taking care not to let their fingers touch the flesh,” warned Dr.
People who want to stay in shape should be aware that longan is also a fruit with a high sugar content, and fasting and eating large amounts of longan can still make you fat. If you don’t want to get fat or want to lose weight, you should eat fruits with low sugar content, such as cucumber and beans. The weight loss effect will increase if the fruit is eaten in the morning, before a meal or with a divided meal.
