Le Can sweet potatoes

Le Can sweet potato is a specialty of Le Can district, Tan Binh town, Dak Dao city, Gia Lai province. Due to its popularity, this potato variety is grown everywhere. However, since it can only be propagated by wire, the quality of the tubers is not as good as it was.

Le Can sweet potatoes have large, hard stems with long leaves and a crown with many purple-brown lobes, and long, red tubers. The color of the intestines is yellow, so when cooked, they are golden brown when eaten, very sweet and fleshy. In particular, this potato variety has all these characteristics only when grown in the Le Can region. If the variety is grown elsewhere, it looks like a Le Can potato, but it is not yellow or sweet inside, and the quality of the tubers is significantly lower. Analysis of soil samples from the Tan Binh commune area showed that some samples from the Le Can area had higher concentrations of trace elements than others, especially manganese and poi, resulting in better quality sweet potatoes. Deliciousness.

Within 3 years (2008-2010), the Gia Lai Plant Variety Research Center restored this sweet potato variety, creating the prerequisites for commercial production.
